Café Boo is a community café and playspace located in the community centre of the Slateford Green housing complex in West Edinburgh (just off Gorgie Road). It is run by Jacquelyn Rixon and Jessica Bazzarelli, two young mothers who decided that rather than work in jobs where they would be forced to pay for their children to attend childcare groups, they would like to set up a social enterprise which would allow them to take their children to work. The café is open on Thurs & Fri from 10.30am – 3pm and it provides a space where parents can come along and play with their kids, interact with other parents and buy affordable, nutritious food and snacks. Because parents are present, there is no need to employ qualified childcare assistants. Jacquelyn & Jessica received a Scotland UnLtd Level 1 Award of £3,398 in early 2004 to help them pilot the project. In Dec 2004, they received Scotland UnLtd Level 2 funding of £15,000 to help them concentrate on becoming a sustainable social enterprise
